The road ends on an open hilltop. The first thing you notice is the quiet, and the wide sky. The home is made up of a main building and several separate cottages, all with red roofs, spread across a grassy field. There is a lot of open land to walk on. As one guest, Suprith G, put it, the "Sunset from this place is just spectacular." The rooms are simple and functional, with king-sized beds and heaters for the cool evenings. The focus is on the view outside the window, looking out over the hills and valleys of the East Khasi Hills. The grounds are spacious, with plenty of room for parking and walking. “After conducting research, I selected this property as my Staying option at Cherapunji. The location is just near Seven Sisters Waterfall & Mawsmai Cave. Things to do nearby.

This part of Meghalaya is known for its natural sights. The home is a short drive from the main circuit. Seven Sisters Falls, also called Nohsngithiang Falls, is visible from the Sohra viewpoint nearby. A little further is Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge waterfall, which is at its most powerful just after the monsoon.

For a different experience, the Mawsmai Caves are a short drive away. It's an easy, well-lit walk through a stretch of limestone caves. For a more serious trek, the trail to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge starts at Tyrna village. It's a descent of over 3,500 steps into the valley of Nongriat.

Day trips are also possible. The town of Dawki, about 80km away, is on the border with Bangladesh. Its Umngot River is famous for its clear water, best for boating between January and March. Mawlynnong, known as Asia's cleanest village, is a 75km drive and has its own living root bridge at the nearby village of Riwai.

Getting there.

The most common way to arrive is by air into Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU), which is 150km away and a 4-hour drive. A smaller airport is at Shillong (SHL), 80km away, with limited flights, taking about 2.5 hours by car. The nearest major railway station is also in Guwahati (150km). From Shillong, the state capital, the drive is about 55km and takes around 2 hours.

Best time to visit.

Cherrapunji has two distinct seasons. October to April is dry, with clear skies and pleasant weather for trekking and sightseeing. The views are wide and the trails are easy to walk.

The monsoon, from June to September, is when Cherrapunji shows its true character as one of the wettest places on Earth. The waterfalls are immense, the landscape is intensely green, and the clouds hang low in the valleys. During this time, trekking can be difficult, trails get muddy, and some viewpoints may be covered in fog.
