What about why stay in a homestay instead of a hotel in shillong?

Shillong sits at 1,500m, so even peak summer stays cool and the weather can turn from sun to fog in twenty minutes. The homes that handle this best have actual heating or good insulation, not just a spare blanket, and hosts who know current road conditions to Cherrapunji, Dawki, and Mawlynnong, since Meghalaya's hill roads close for landslides more often than most travellers expect, especially June to September. A good host is also the fastest way to a real Khasi meal rather than a tourist-menu

What about 1. [8-bedroom terrace-view homestay in shillong](/listings/top-floor-room-at-shillong-hills-bed-and-breakfasts-for-rent-in-shillong-meghalaya-india-airbnb)?

The most reviewed home in Shillong by a wide margin. A big, straightforward property with a terrace view and the basics done right rather than anything elaborate, which is probably why it's the one most groups come back to.

What about 2. [7-bedroom homestay, 1km from the market](/listings/7br-charming-city-view-retreat-1km-from-baazar)?

Close enough to walk into town for the bazaar and Police Bazar's cafes, with a city view from the rooms. A good fit if you want to be based centrally rather than out in the hills.

What about 4. [7-bedroom colonial-style homestay](/listings/colonial-charm-homestay-vintage-luxury-2)?

What about 5. [4-bedroom homestay in the pine forest, near shillong](/listings/pine-forest-homestay-w-khasi-food-and-walks-meghalaya)?

Set among pine trees rather than in the town itself, with real Khasi home cooking and walking trails right from the property. Quieter than most of this list.

What about 6. [colonial-era homestay in shillong](/listings/colonial-garden-retreat-in-the-heart-of-shillong)?

A whole-property colonial home in the town centre, at a genuine luxury price point, the most expensive whole-property booking on this list.

What about 7. [3-bedroom golf-view homestay in shillong](/listings/spacious-golf-view-rooms-with-5-star-service-2)?

Overlooks Shillong's golf course, one of the highest-rated homes on this list, with a service standard the reviews consistently call out.

What about 8. [hill-view homestay with a rooftop, shillong](/listings/spacious-hill-view-retreat-with-rooftop-view)?

A rooftop view over the hills, whole-property priced, another of the higher-end options on this list.

What about 9. [6-bedroom homestay in shillong](/listings/fresh-food-guest-house-and-clean-washrooms-meghalaya)?

One of the more budget-friendly whole-property options on this list, clean and no-frills, a solid pick if the room count matters more than the view.

What about 10. [7-bedroom homestay with a balcony, shillong](/listings/city-balcony-views-homestay-meghalaya)?

The most photographed home on this list (29 real photos) and one of the better-equipped, with parking, housekeeping, and breakfast included rather than extra.

What about 11. [7-bedroom homestay with valley views, shillong](/listings/valley-view-house-with-7-bedrooms-in-shillong)?

The highest-rated home on this list at real review volume, with a valley view and a breakfast guests specifically mention.

What about 12. [homestay with a riverfront bamboo cottage, mylliem](/listings/hillside-haven-riverfront-bamboo-cottage-getaway)?

Set in Mylliem, inside greater Shillong's urban catchment but with a riverside, bamboo-cottage feel most in-town options can't offer.
