Valley View Stone Terrace Retreat, Cabin, UK in Mukteshwar, uttarakhand, hero photo
A quiet home in Mukteshwar, built for two. The days are for the wide valley views from the stone terrace and private balcony. The nights are for clear, quiet skies. This is a place to slow down, with access to a kitchen for your own meals. As one guest put it, it's "the perfect place if one is seeking to spend their time with nature and beauty."

A look around
What's here
The first thing you notice is the quiet. Then, the view. From the stone-paved terrace, the Kumaon hills stretch out in layers. This home is a simple space for one or two people looking for a pause. The home has one bedroom with an attached bathroom, designed to sleep up to two guests. The room is panelled in warm wood, with a sloped ceiling that gives it a cosy, attic-like feel. It opens onto a private balcony, another spot to sit and watch the valley. The king-sized bed faces large windows that let in the mountain light. The attached bathroom has a shower and a geyser for hot water. There is indoor and outdoor seating, including the large shared terrace. Kitchen access is available for guests who wish to prepare their own meals. The focus here is on simplicity and the surrounding landscape. As one guest who stayed here shared, it is "the perfect place if one is seeking to spend their time with nature and beauty."

Fantastic location. Service was slightly below par due to the cook having to take leave on a short notice. Great room. This was my third visit here

Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

The home is a good starting point for exploring the Kumaon region. Mukteshwar Temple, a 350-year-old Shiva temple, is a short drive away. Next to it is Chauli Ki Jali, a cliff edge with sweeping views, popular for rappelling and rock climbing.

For wildlife, Jim Corbett National Park is a longer day trip. The park is one of India's premier tiger reserves, best visited between October and June. Plan your safari and book your entry from the Ramnagar gate in advance.

Logistics

Getting there.

The closest airport for the Kumaon region is in Pantnagar (PGH). The nearest major railhead is Kathgodam (KGM). From either Pantnagar or Kathgodam, you can hire a taxi for the final leg of the journey to Mukteshwar. The drive from Kathgodam takes around 2-3 hours. Nainital serves as the main road hub for the area.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The mountains are welcoming year-round, but the best seasons are spring and summer (March to June) for clear skies and pleasant weather, and post-monsoon (September to November) for crisp air and green landscapes. The monsoon months of July and August can bring heavy rain and potential landslides. The highest reaches of the region, like Auli or Chopta, see heavy snowfall and close from December to February, but the Mukteshwar belt generally remains accessible.
