The home is a good starting point for exploring the Kumaon region. Jim Corbett National Park, one of India's oldest tiger reserves, is a few hours' drive away. The Ramnagar gate is the most common entry point, and the park is best visited between October and June.
About 50km from Nainital is the quiet hill town of Mukteshwar. It's known for the 350-year-old Mukteshwar Temple, dedicated to Shiva, and Chauli Ki Jali, a cliff edge with sweeping views of the Himalayan range.
By air: The nearest airport is Pantnagar Airport (PGH), which serves the Kumaon region. Taxis are available for the onward journey.
By rail: The closest major railhead is Kathgodam. It's the gateway to Kumaon, with connections to major cities like Delhi. From Kathgodam, you can hire a taxi to the home.
By road: The home is located about 15 km from the town of Bhimtal. Nainital and Rishikesh are the main road hubs for Kumaon and Garhwal respectively. The roads are generally well-maintained, but the final approach to the village may be on a smaller, unpaved road.
The Kumaon hills are pleasant year-round. The clearest skies and best weather are from March to June, before the monsoon, and again from September to November, after the rains have cleared the air. The monsoon months of July and August bring lush greenery but also the risk of landslides on mountain roads. While high-altitude destinations like Auli and Chopta close due to snow from December to February, the lower Kumaon region remains accessible.
