A look around
What's here
The home is set around a wide, tiled courtyard with a small garden of marigolds. A gazebo sits in one corner, a place for morning tea. The building itself has a distinct red-tiled roof and stone-clad walls, a quiet presence in the South Sikkim landscape. Inside, the home has six bedrooms, each with its own attached bathroom. The rooms are modestly sized but kept very clean, with wood-panelled ceilings that add warmth. Beds are either king or queen-sized, with simple, clean linen. The bathrooms are modern and tiled, and each one is fitted with a geyser for a reliable supply of hot water. Guests often mention the food, which is cooked in the home’s kitchen and served in a pleasant dining area. The owner and staff are a constant, helpful presence. As one guest puts it, "The stay was truly beyond our expectations, with an incredibly humble and welcoming owner who never said no." The space is simple, not grand. It’s a place people return to. Another guest said, "This has become our home away from home while traveling in Sikkim." The focus is on the small things, done well. "Beautifully maintained rooms, along with magnificent food and a lovely dining ambience, made the experience outstanding."

Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

Namchi is a good base for exploring South Sikkim. For trips further afield, you will need to plan for longer drives.

Gangtok, the state capital, is the hub for arranging permits for restricted areas and is a few hours' drive away. From there, you can visit Tsomgo Lake (40km from Gangtok), a high-altitude lake that freezes in winter, or Rumtek Monastery (24km from Gangtok), an important centre for Tibetan Buddhism.

West Sikkim is home to Pelling (115km from Gangtok), known for its direct views of Kanchenjunga and its historic monasteries, Pemayangtse and Sanga Choeling. For serious trekkers, the Goecha La trek begins from Yuksom in West Sikkim.

Access to North Sikkim, including the famous Yumthang valley, requires a special permit arranged in Gangtok and is a multi-day trip.

Logistics

Getting there.

The most reliable way to reach Sikkim is by air or rail, followed by a road journey.

By air: Bagdogra Airport (IXB) in West Bengal is the primary airport, located about 124km from Gangtok. From the airport, it is a 4 to 5-hour drive to reach most parts of Sikkim, including Namchi. Pakyong Airport (PYG) is closer, but flights are often diverted due to weather.

By rail: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest major railway station, located just outside Siliguri. It is well-connected to major Indian cities. The distance to Gangtok is about 122km, a similar drive time to that from Bagdogra.

By road: Taxis and shared jeeps are widely available from Bagdogra, NJP, and Siliguri for the journey into Sikkim.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best time to visit Sikkim is during two main windows. March through May is spring, when the rhododendrons are in full bloom across the state, and the weather is pleasant.

The second window is from October to mid-December. The monsoon has passed, leaving clear blue skies and excellent views of the Himalayan peaks, including Kanchenjunga. The monsoon season, from June to September, brings heavy rain and frequent landslides, often closing roads to areas like North Sikkim.
