A look around
What's here
The home is set in a quiet garden, away from the main town. The first thing you'll notice is the quiet, broken only by sounds from the farm. The host, Apeng Bhutia, and his family live here too, and they run the place with a warmth that guests often mention. There are three bedrooms in total, with a mix of bed arrangements to sleep up to 15 people, making it a good fit for trekking groups or large families. The rooms are simple and clean, with wood-panelled walls and attached bathrooms that have geysers for hot water. The real heart of the stay is the food. As one guest, Debabrata, put it, "What makes this place truly stand out is the food - the family serves delicious meals using vegetables and fish raised right on their own farm. You can really taste the freshness in every bite!" The kitchen is the family's, and they'll often bring you hot tea in your room in the evening. The garden is a simple lawn with a hammock, a swing, and a bonfire area. There are also friendly dogs, a cat, and bunnies on the property. Another guest, Sarania, said, "It's run by a very sweet family who will take care of you like you belong."

“Had an amazing stay at this property in Yoksum, West Sikkim! The food was super tasty and felt just like home. The room was clean and comfy, but the best part was the owner and his lovely family — they took care of everything and even took us sightseeing and on a short trek. It’s a bit remote, but that peaceful isolation is exactly what we needed. If you’re ...”

“I had a fantastic stay at this property. The home-cooked meals were delicious, my room was cozy and clean, the family is super friendly. They brought hot tea for me in the room every evening and helped me to book a taxy. The location is quite secluded, but the place is very peaceful with a beautiful garden. Highly recommend!”

Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

Yuksom is the starting point for the classic Goecha La trek, which takes you to the base of Kanchenjunga. The trek is a multi-day journey and requires proper gear and permits, which can be arranged in town. The host family can often help with logistics and booking a taxi.

The town of Pelling is about a 3-4 hour drive away, known for its clear views of the Kanchenjunga range and its historic monasteries, including Pemayangtse and Sanga Choeling.

From Gangtok, about 125 km away, you can arrange day trips to Tsomgo Lake and Rumtek Monastery. Both are a full day's excursion and require separate permits, which are best arranged through a travel agent in Gangtok.

Logistics

Getting there.

The nearest major airport is Bagdogra (IXB) in West Bengal, around 124 km away. The drive to Yuksom takes over 4 hours and is quite scenic. Pakyong Airport (PYG) in Sikkim is closer, but flights are often diverted due to weather, making Bagdogra the more reliable option.

New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the closest railway station, about 122 km from Yuksom. You can hire a shared or private taxi from the station for the journey uphill.

Yuksom is connected by road to other towns in Sikkim like Pelling and the state capital, Gangtok. Roads are mountainous and winding, and travel times can vary.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best times to visit Yuksom are from March to May, when the rhododendrons are in bloom, and from October to mid-December, when the skies are clear for mountain views. The monsoon season, from June to September, brings heavy rain and often causes road closures. Winter sees cold temperatures, but the views can be sharp and clear.
