Mukteshwar is quieter than the main lake belt of Nainital, a good place for walks and quiet exploration.
A short drive takes you to the Mukteshwar Temple, a 350-year-old Shiva temple that gives the town its name. Right next to it is Chauli Ki Jali, a cliff-edge viewpoint with legends of its own and wide-open views of the valley.
For wildlife, Jim Corbett National Park is a longer day trip away. The park is open from October to June, and safaris can be booked at the Ramnagar gate. It’s one of the best places in India to see tigers in the wild.
The home is in Mukteshwar, in the Kumaon region of the Western Himalaya.
By Air: The nearest airport is in Pantnagar (PGH), the main airport for the Kumaon region. From there, it's a taxi ride to the property.
By Rail: The closest major railhead is Kathgodam (KGM), which has good connectivity to Delhi and other major cities. Taxis are available at the station for the onward journey.
By Road: Mukteshwar is about 50 km from the Kumaon road hub of Nainital. The main roads are generally well-maintained and suitable for sedans, though the final approach to some homes in the hills can be on smaller, unpaved roads.
The mountains are welcoming year-round, but each season is different. March through June offers clear skies and pleasant weather, perfect for views of the high peaks. The monsoon arrives in July and August, bringing mist, green landscapes, and the risk of landslides on the roads.
September to November is another ideal window, with crisp air after the rains have cleared. From December to February, the higher reaches see snowfall, and it can get very cold, though the views of snow-capped ranges are often at their best.
