The home is in Bhagsu, a village just above McLeodganj. It’s a good base for exploring the area between healing sessions.
Tsuglagkhang Complex: This is the heart of the Tibetan community in exile and the official residence of the Dalai Lama. The complex houses a monastery, temples, and a museum. It's a place of quiet contemplation.
Triund Trek: A popular day-hike, the four-hour walk up to Triund offers a direct, wall-like view of the Dhauladhar mountain range. The trail starts a short drive from McLeodganj. It's best done on a clear day.
Manali & Beyond: For longer stays, Manali is the gateway to the high-altitude landscapes of Lahaul and Spiti. The Atal Tunnel keeps the route to Lahaul open for much of the year, while the full Spiti loop via Kaza and Ki Monastery is accessible from June to October.
By Air: The nearest airport is Gaggal Airport (DHM) in Dharamshala. It has limited connectivity. The most reliable all-weather airport is Chandigarh (IXC), which is a 5-6 hour drive away.
By Rail: The nearest major railhead is Pathankot (PTK), about 3 hours away by car. From there, you can hire a taxi to McLeodganj. Chandigarh (CDG) is another major railhead with better connections to the rest of India.
By Road: McLeodganj is well-connected by road to Delhi and Chandigarh. The drive is scenic but mountainous. Expect sharp turns and slow average speeds.
The best time to visit the Kangra valley is during two main windows. The first is from March to June, when the snow melts and the weather is pleasant. The second is from September to November, after the monsoon, when the skies are clear and the air is crisp.
The monsoon months of July and August see heavy rainfall, which can cause landslides on National Highways 3 and 21. Winter, from December to February, brings snow to the upper reaches of Dharamshala.
