Mukteshwar is a good base for exploring the Kumaon region. The 350-year-old Mukteshwar Temple is a short drive away, perched on a cliff edge at Chauli Ki Jali with sweeping views of the Himalayan peaks. For wildlife, Jim Corbett National Park is a longer day trip. The park is open from October to June, and safaris can be booked from the Ramnagar gate to spot tigers, elephants, and hundreds of bird species.
By air - The nearest airport is in Pantnagar (PGH), which serves the Kumaon region. From there, it's a taxi ride to Mukteshwar. By rail - Kathgodam (KGM) is the closest railhead. It’s the last stop on the line and the gateway to Kumaon towns like Nainital, Almora, and Mukteshwar. Taxis are available at the station. By road - Mukteshwar is about 50 km from Nainital, the main road hub in the region. The drive takes you through winding mountain roads.
The best months are from March to June and again from September to November, when the skies are clear and the views are sharp. The monsoon season, from July to August, brings heavy rain and the risk of landslides on the mountain roads. In winter, from December to February, higher altitude destinations like Auli and Chopta may be closed by snow, but Mukteshwar remains accessible.
