What's here

Every room has a king-sized bed and its own attached bathroom with a shower. The spaces are kept very neat and clean. The heart of the home is the kitchen, run by a family. A very nice clean hotel. The manager and his son are both very helpful. The food is top notch with really fresh herbs and a nice spicy flavour that is in my opinion not to hot. If you ask for extra rotis they will come out still puffed out and easy too hot, super fresh, excellent. I still have to figure out how the shower works in India. I couldn't quite get...

Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

The home is a good base for exploring the southern part of Himachal. Kasauli, a colonial-era cantonment town, is a short drive away, known for its quiet walks and sunset point. The historic town of Dagshai and the railway town of Barog, with its haunted tunnel, are also nearby.

Shimla, the state capital, is about a two-hour drive. You can spend a day walking the Ridge and Mall Road, or visit the Viceregal Lodge. For a more scenic journey, you can drive to Kalka and take the UNESCO World Heritage toy train up to Shimla, a slow, winding ride through more than a hundred tunnels.

Logistics

Getting there.

By Air: The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), which is well-connected to all major Indian cities. From Chandigarh, it’s about a 2-3 hour drive to Solan. Shimla’s Jubbarhatti Airport (SLV) is closer but has very limited and weather-dependent flights.

By Rail: The nearest broad-gauge railway station is in Kalka, about an hour's drive away. Kalka is the starting point for the historic Kalka-Shimla toy train. The main railhead in the plains is Chandigarh (CDG), with connections across the country.

By Road: Solan is located directly on the national highway connecting Chandigarh to Shimla. The roads are mountainous and winding. Expect travel times of 4-6 hours for any 100km stretch in the hills.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best time to visit is from March through June, when the weather is pleasant and the snow has melted. A second window opens from September to November, with clear skies after the monsoon and crisp air. The monsoon season, from July to August, sees heavy rain and can cause landslides on the highways. Winters, from December to February, are cold, and you might see snow in the higher reaches towards Shimla and Kufri.
