Getting there.
Bhuntar Airport in Kullu lies 220 km away via Manali and the Kunzum Pass. This route requires a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle and remains open only between June and October when snow clears from the mountain passes.
Shimla Airport sits 410 km away, connected by the Kinnaur highway. This road takes longer to travel but remains open for more months of the year, usually from April through November.
Shimla railway station provides toy train connections 410 km from Spiti Valley. Taxis and local buses run along the highway from Shimla through Reckong Peo toward Kaza.
Kaza serves as the primary road hub in Spiti Valley. Located a short drive from the home, Kaza contains the region's main fuel pump, bank ATMs, local repair shops, and grocery markets.
Best time to visit.
May through October offers open road access from both Manali and Shimla sides of the valley. Clear blue skies, sunny afternoons, and dry dirt roads make summer the practical choice for driving between high villages.
November through April brings deep winter to the valley, closing the Kunzum Pass from Manali entirely. Temperatures drop well below freezing, requiring travel through the longer Shimla route while bringing heavy snow and quiet landscapes.
