Kibber village sits at 4,270 metres, making it one of the highest motorable villages in the world. The drive itself is an experience, with views that open up around every bend.
Chicham Bridge, Asia's highest suspension bridge, connects Kibber with Chicham village. Walking across it, with the gorge far below, is a memorable moment.
Pin Valley National Park is snow leopard country. While sightings are rare and require patience, the park's stark, high-altitude landscape is a draw for trekkers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Langza village, about a thousand feet above Kaza, is known for its giant Buddha statue overlooking the valley and the abundance of marine fossils found in the surrounding hills.
By Air: The nearest airports are Bhuntar (KUU), 220 km away via the Kunzum Pass, and Shimla (SLV), which is a longer 410 km drive. The Manali-Kaza road, which passes Bhuntar, is only open from June to October.

By Road: There are two main routes. The road from Manali (200 km) is shorter but only open from June to October and requires a capable 4x4 vehicle due to the high-altitude Kunzum Pass. The road from Shimla (410 km) via Kinnaur is longer but open for more of the year, typically from April to November. The district headquarters of Kaza has fuel, ATMs, and a market.
The best time to visit Spiti by road is from May to October. During these months, the road from Manali via Kunzum La is open, offering a classic circuit route. The weather is pleasant, though nights are always cold. From November to April, the Manali-Kaza road is closed due to heavy snow. Access is only possible from the Shimla side, and conditions can be harsh. This is the time for those seeking solitude and a true winter experience.
