Getting there.
Kasauli is best reached by road from the plains.
By Air: The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC). From there, it is a 2-3 hour drive up to Kasauli. The Shimla airport (SLV) at Jubbarhatti is closer but has very limited and weather-dependent flights.
By Rail: The nearest major railway station is Kalka (KLK), about an hour's drive away. Kalka is also the starting point for the UNESCO World Heritage Kalka-Shimla toy train, a slower but scenic way to enter the hills. The main railhead with connections to all major Indian cities is Chandigarh (CDG).
By Road: Kasauli is well-connected by road to Chandigarh, Shimla, and Delhi. Expect winding, single-lane hill roads for the final ascent.
Best time to visit.
The best months to visit Kasauli are from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the skies are clear. A second window opens up after the monsoon, from September to November, offering crisp air and green landscapes.
The monsoon months of July and August see heavy rainfall, which can cause landslides and difficult road conditions on the highways. Winters, from December to February, are cold, and while Kasauli doesn't always get heavy snow, the nights are chilly and frosts are common.
