Reaching Kaza is an adventure in itself. The nearest airports are Bhuntar (KUU) (220km — via Manali + Kunzum La) and Shimla (SLV) (410km). The closest railhead is Shimla (410km). From the road hubs, you can reach Kaza from Manali (200km — via Kunzum La; June-October only, 4×4 strongly preferred) or Shimla (410km — via Kinnaur; longer but open more months (April-November)). Kaza itself is the district HQ. You'll find fuel, ATMs, and a market here.
The best time to visit Spiti Valley by road is from May to October. The road from Manali is usually open from June to October. From November to April, the road from Manali is closed, and you can only reach Kaza from the Shimla side.
