What about 1. guided grove walk?

A local Khasi guide is mandatory. 2 to 3 hour walk through the forest. They explain the sacred stones, the flora, the Labasa legend. Fee: around ₹500 to ₹800 per guide (group of up to 6).

What about 2. standing stone monoliths?

Pre-walk or post-walk, visit the ancient monolith cluster at the grove entrance. Photography friendly.

What about 3. mawphlang village?

The village is a 10-minute walk from the grove. Traditional Khasi bamboo-and-stone houses, small church, and two or three homestays.

What about 4. david scott trail (add-on)?

If you are fit, start the David Scott Trail from Mawphlang. It is a 16 km old British trade route to Lad Mawphlang, takes 4 to 5 hours one way. Most tourists do the first 3 km and turn back.

What about 5. lunch at a mawphlang homestay?

Khasi thali with jadoh, dohkhlieh, greens. Order ahead, budget ₹200 to ₹400 per person.

What about best time to visit?

- October to March: Dry, cool, misty mornings. Peak time. - April to May: Pre-monsoon, green, pleasant. - June to September: Monsoon. Forest is stunning but slippery. Leeches in peak rain. Go prepared.

What about grove rules (important)?

1. Take nothing out. Not leaves, not stones, not acorns. It is a strict belief. 2. No food or drink inside beyond water. 3. No loud noise. Treat it like a cathedral. 4. Photography is allowed but be respectful near sacred stones. 5. The guide will stop you if you drift toward sacred trees. Follow their lead.

What about combining with cherrapunji?

Mawphlang is on the Shillong-Cherrapunji highway. You can stop here for 2 hours on the drive to Cherrapunji. Most Fursat guests do this on Day 3 of the 7-day Meghalaya itinerary.

1. Book the guide at the entrance, not through agents. Community-run, transparent pricing. 2. Carry cash. UPI at the entrance is hit or miss. 3. Do not go after heavy rain.
