The temple is on Nilachal Hill. 4 km from the city centre, 20 minutes drive. Peak darshan is 5 to 7 am. By 9 am the queue is brutal.

Paradise or Khorikaa. Try a fish thali: masor tenga (sour fish curry), rice, khar, and jolpan.

What about afternoon: peacock island (umananda)?

Umananda Temple sits on a Brahmaputra river island. Ferries from the Fancy Bazaar ghat run every 30 minutes.

What about evening: brahmaputra river cruise?

Jalkanya, Alfresco Grand, or MV Charaidew cruise boats run from Fancy Bazaar. Sunset cruise with live Assamese music and Bihu dance.

What about dinner: delicacy or heritage khorikaa?

Try smoked pork, bhoot jolokia chicken, and pitha for dessert.

What about day 2: pobitora safari or city depth?

What about option a: pobitora wildlife sanctuary (recommended)?

Pobitora is 50 km from Guwahati, 1.5 to 2 hour drive. It has the highest rhino density per sq km in India (higher than Kaziranga).

1. Kamakhya closes for darshan during special festivals. Check the calendar if visiting in late June (Ambubachi Mela) or mid October (Durga Puja). 2. Traffic is bad from 9 am to 11 am, and 5 pm to 8 pm. Plan accordingly. 3. Carry cash for ferries, small eateries, and rickshaws. 4. Mosquitoes at the river in summer. Carry repellent for evening cruises. 5. Airport is 25 km from the city. Allow 1 hour for airport transfers.
