For a view over the whole valley, drive up to Shillong Peak. At 1,965 metres, it's the highest point in the area. Go on a clear day for the best visibility.
Closer to the centre, Lady Hydari Park & Mini Zoo is a quick stop, just a kilometre from the main Police Bazar market.
Further out, Laitlum Canyons offers dramatic ridge-top views, about 25km to the east. The name translates to 'the end of the hills'.
The Mawphlang Sacred Grove is 25km southwest of Shillong. This dense, ancient forest is protected by traditional Khasi beliefs, and you'll need a local guide to walk you through it.
In the city itself, the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians is a prominent landmark. It’s a blue Gothic-style church built in 1936.
By Air: The nearest airport is Shillong (SHL), also known as Umroi Airport, about 30km away. It has limited flights, mostly connecting through Kolkata, and operations can be weather-dependent. The more common arrival point is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati (GAU), 100km away. From Guwahati, it's a 3-hour drive to Shillong.
By Rail: Meghalaya has no railway lines. The nearest major railhead is in Guwahati, 100km away. From the station, you can hire a shared or private taxi for the 3-hour journey to Shillong.
By Road: Shillong is well-connected by National Highway 6 from Guwahati. The home is located in the Laban area, a short distance from Police Bazar, the city's central hub.
The best season for clear skies and mountain views is from October to April. The weather is pleasant and ideal for sightseeing. The monsoon arrives from June to September, bringing the famous Khasi rain. While Shillong itself remains largely accessible, some outlying attractions may close due to heavy rainfall.
