“It was really our home away from home. We stayed there for 4 nights and celebrated our Diwali with the kind hosts Tashi ji and his family. They are really humble and come from a reputed family in Arunachal and Sangti valley and are pioneers in their field but yet great lively hosts and caring parents. We got to meet their children too as we had our own and t...”
“One of the most memorable stays we had. The place, location and the hospitality of the hosts was what was exceptional and makes you want to visit again. The people of the place are warm and welcoming and the experience was humbling.”
“Beautiful stay and exquisite service. The owners are lovely ensured we get the best services. Clean and lovely place beside Sangti river. Highly recommended 🩷”
“I am giving the location, five stars, but the rooms a lower rating and the service a much lower rating. You have to order your food in advance and you can get vegetarian and non-vegetarian food as well as fish. The valley is quite spectacular and you can go for a walk and enjoy the scenery. There is a river close by so you can walk along the river and take ...”
Pelling is a base for some of West Sikkim's most significant sites. The 17th-century Pemayangtse Monastery, a key seat of the Nyingma order, is a short drive away, perched on a ridge with its own Kanchenjunga backdrop. A 30 km drive takes you to Khecheopalri Lake, a sacred wishing lake hidden in a dense forest, where the water is kept clean by birds picking up fallen leaves.
Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim, is 32 km away. It's a quiet, historic town and the starting point for the famous Goecha La and Dzongri treks. For a different kind of view, the Singshore Bridge, Asia's second-highest gorge bridge, is also about 30 km from Pelling.
Closer to home, the ruins of Rabdentse, Sikkim's second capital, are just 7 km away and can be reached via a beautiful walk through the forest. A steep 40-minute uphill walk from Pelling leads to Sangachoeling Monastery, which is even older than Pemayangtse. For panoramic valley views, the Pelling Sky Walk and the towering Chenrezig statue are a popular stop.
By Air: The nearest major airport is Bagdogra (IXB) in West Bengal, 160 km away. The drive to Pelling takes about 5 hours via Jorethang. Sikkim's own airport, Pakyong (PYG), is 130 km away, but flights are often dependent on weather conditions.
By Rail: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the main railhead, located 150 km from Pelling. The drive is around 5 hours.
By Road: Pelling is well-connected by road. It is 130 km (4-5 hours) from Gangtok, Sikkim's capital. Jorethang, a key junction town, is 75 km away.
The best season to visit Pelling is from October to mid-June, when the skies are clear and the mountain views are at their best. Winters are cold but crisp. The monsoon, from late June to September, brings heavy rain, fog, and the risk of landslides on the roads, making travel difficult.
