The Gulmarg Gondola, one of the world's highest cable cars, is the main attraction here. It operates in two stages, rising to an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters for wide views of the Himalayas. In winter, this is the hub for skiing and snowboarding.
Srinagar, the summer capital, is about 50 km away. A day trip can cover the city's key sights. Take a shikara ride on Dal Lake, weaving between the houseboats and floating markets. You can also visit the Mughal gardens - Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi - known for their terraced lawns and fountains.
Further afield, you can plan excursions to Pahalgam (around 95 km from Srinagar) to see the Lidder river and the meadows of Aru and Betaab Valley. Sonamarg, the 'meadow of gold', is about 87 km from Srinagar and is the starting point for a short trek to the Thajiwas Glacier.

By Road: Gulmarg is a well-paved 50 km drive from Srinagar. Taxis and private cars are readily available from the airport or the city center.
Best time to visit.
Kashmir has three distinct seasons for visitors. April through June is spring, when the valley is in bloom with almond blossoms and tulips. September and October bring autumn, with the leaves of the chinar trees turning gold and red.
For snow, the best time is from December through February. Gulmarg receives heavy snowfall, turning it into a winter sports destination. The views from the home are especially clear on crisp winter days.
