By air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), around 90 kilometres away. The drive to Darjeeling takes about 3 hours via the scenic routes of Mirik or Kurseong.
By rail: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the main railhead for the region, located 88 kilometres from Darjeeling. It connects the hills to major Indian cities. From NJP, you can hire a taxi or take a shared jeep. The historic toy train also runs from NJP to Darjeeling, but it's a slow, scenic journey, not a quick transfer.
By road: Siliguri, 75 kilometres away, is the main road hub in the plains. From here, frequent shared jeeps and private taxis make the winding journey up to Darjeeling and other hill towns like Kalimpong and Mirik.
The best time to visit is from October to mid-June. The post-monsoon months of October and November offer crisp air and clear mountain views. Spring, from March to May, brings pleasant weather and blooming rhododendrons. The monsoon season, from late June to September, is best avoided. Heavy rains can cause landslides, leading to road closures on NH10 and the Pankhabari road, which can disrupt travel plans.
