Getting there.
By air, Bhuntar Airport near Kullu sits 220 km away via Manali and Kunzum La pass, open between June and October when the high pass is clear of snow. Shimla Airport is 410 km away via the Kinnaur valley route, offering access across more months of the year.
By train, Shimla railway station is the nearest railhead, located 410 km from the property along the main highway through Kinnaur.
By road, drivers coming from Manali cover 200 km over Kunzum La pass during summer, where a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended for river crossings and rough terrain. The road from Shimla covers 410 km through Kinnaur and stays open from April through November. Kaza serves as the local hub for fuel, cash machines, and market supplies. Vehicles park along the main road downhill from the home, followed by a 5 to 10 minute uphill walk on a foot track while staff assist with luggage.
Best time to visit.
May through October is the main season for traveling into Spiti Valley by road. Late spring and summer bring clear skies, blooming alpine plants, and open passes from Manali and Shimla. September and October bring crisp mountain air and clear night skies. From November through April, heavy snowfall closes the pass from Manali, leaving the road through Shimla as the single overland entry point into the high valley.
