Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

This home is a good point from which to explore the Shimla hills. Shoghi is about a 30-minute drive from Shimla town, close enough for a day trip but far enough to escape the crowds.

You can visit Shimla for a walk along the historic Ridge and Mall Road, see the Christ Church, or browse the old bookshops. For a more scenic journey, drive to Kalka and take the UNESCO World Heritage toy train up to Shimla. The slow, winding journey through pine forests and over 100 tunnels is an experience in itself.

Logistics

Getting there.

By Air: The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), about 100 km away. From there, it's a 3-4 hour drive to Shoghi. Shimla's Jubbarhatti Airport (SLV) is closer but has very limited and weather-dependent flights.

By Rail: The nearest major railway station is in Kalka, which is well-connected to Delhi and other cities. From Kalka, you can either take the toy train to Shimla (and then a taxi to Shoghi) or hire a taxi for the direct 2.5-hour drive. Chandigarh (CDG) is another major railhead.

By Road: Shoghi is located directly on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway (NH-5). The home is accessible by car, and the road from the highway to the property is steep but manageable.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best months to visit are from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the snow has melted. A second window of clear skies and green hills opens up from September to November, after the monsoon.

The monsoon season, from July to August, brings heavy rain and the risk of landslides on the highways. Winters, from December to February, can be very cold with occasional snowfall, which can sometimes block roads but offers a different kind of beauty.
