The first thing you will do is step out onto the balcony. The air is sharp. The view is a full sweep of the valley floor, the town below, and the snow-dusted peaks of the Western Himalaya beyond. The home is built for this view, with simple, clean spaces that let the mountains do the talking. The home has one bedroom with a king bed, suitable for up to two guests. The room has wooden flooring and simple wooden furniture, with an attached, modern bathroom. Some rooms have wood-panelled, vaulted ceilings that add a sense of space. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and a dining table for your use. Guests have access to the kitchen to prepare their own meals. Parking is available on site. Manali is the hub of the Kullu valley, a starting point for high-altitude adventures and a destination in its own right. A short drive takes you to the Solang Valley, known for its summer meadows and winter skiing. From there, the Atal Tunnel, an engineering marvel at over 10,000 feet, provides year-round access to the Lahaul valley.

Closer to the home, you can explore the heart of Manali. The Hadimba Devi temple, a unique four-tiered pagoda surrounded by a cedar forest, is a quiet, spiritual spot. A walk through Old Manali reveals a different side of the town, with its cafes, small guesthouses, and slower pace. For a warm soak, the Vashisht hot springs are a short drive away.

For the more adventurous, Manali is the gateway to the Spiti valley loop. This high-altitude desert circuit, accessible from Manali between June and October, takes you through remote villages like Kaza and Kibber, past ancient monasteries like Ki. The journey is as important as the destination.

Getting there.

By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (KUU) in Kullu, about an hour's drive from Manali. Flights can be infrequent and weather-dependent. The most reliable all-weather airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), a 7-8 hour drive away.

By Rail: The nearest major railhead is in Chandigarh, offering connections to all major Indian cities. From Chandigarh, it's a scenic but long bus or taxi ride up to Manali. The narrow-gauge toy train from Kalka to Shimla is a beautiful journey, but Shimla is another full day's drive from Manali.

By Road: Manali is well-connected by road from Delhi and Chandigarh. The town serves as a major road hub for travel into Lahaul, Spiti, and Leh. National Highways 3 and 21 lead to the region.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best seasons to visit are from March to June, when the snow melts and the valleys turn green, and again from September to November, when the monsoon has passed, leaving clear skies and crisp air.

July and August are monsoon months, which can bring heavy rain and increase the risk of landslides on the highways. December through February sees heavy snowfall, transforming the landscape into a white wonderland. While beautiful, this can make travel challenging, so check road conditions before you set out.
