Rishikesh is the gateway to the Garhwal Himalaya, putting some of the region's most significant sites within reach.
Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan happens every evening in Rishikesh. It’s a powerful ceremony of fire, sound, and devotion on the banks of the river. Find a spot on the steps an hour before sunset.
Auli is a drive away, known for its ski slopes from December to March. In other seasons, it’s a vast meadow of oak and rhododendron, with wide-open views of Himalayan peaks.
Tungnath and Chandrashila Peak are further up the road, starting from the village of Chopta. Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world, a steady 4-hour climb. The final push to Chandrashila rewards you with a 360-degree Himalayan panorama.
Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is accessible from the Govindghat trailhead. It’s open only during the monsoon, from July to September, when the high-altitude valley is covered in endemic alpine flowers.
Jim Corbett National Park, India's oldest, is a few hours' drive away. The best time to spot tigers is from October to June, with safaris starting from the Ramnagar gate.
The home is in one of the main hubs of the Garhwal region.
By air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun. Taxis are available for the onward journey.
By rail: The nearest major railhead is Haridwar, with connections to Delhi and other major Indian cities. From Haridwar, Rishikesh is a short drive.
By road: Rishikesh is a major road hub and the starting point for the Char Dham Yatra. It is well-connected by bus and taxi services from Delhi, Dehradun, and Haridwar.
The Western Himalayas are accessible year-round, but different seasons offer different things. The clearest skies are from March to June and again from September to November. This is the best time for trekking and mountain views.
The monsoon months of July and August bring heavy rain, lush green landscapes, and the risk of landslides on mountain roads. This is the only time to see the Valley of Flowers in full bloom.
Winter, from December to February, brings snow to high-altitude destinations like Auli and Chopta, often closing the roads. The towns in the foothills, like Rishikesh, remain cold but accessible.
