A look around
What's here
The first thing you notice is the light. The rooms are spacious, with large windows that look out onto the hills. On a clear morning, you can see the Kanchenjunga peak from your bed. The home is run by the Gurung family, who live on the property and are known for their warmth. As one guest put it, they "truly made me feel like part of their family." The home has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a total of five beds to accommodate up to six people. The rooms are clean, with fresh linen and reliable Wi-Fi. A long, tiled balcony runs along the front, a good spot for a cup of tea while watching the clouds drift by. Meals are a focus here. Everything is cooked in the family kitchen and served hot. Guests often mention the food: "splendid, served hot and fresh for every meal, with barbecue options as well." Another guest noted, "The food was all homemade and delicious - simple, fresh, and full of local flavors (do not miss the local salads and chutneys!)". The hosts are happy to cater to specific needs, with one family saying they took "special care for our kid".

Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

The home's location, a two-minute walk from Kurseong station, makes it a good starting point for exploring the region. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is right there. You can take the two-hour 'Ghum Loop' joyride for a scenic tour.

For a classic Darjeeling experience, drive to Tiger Hill (11km from Darjeeling town) before dawn to see the first light hit Kanchenjunga. To see where the region's famous tea comes from, visit working estates like Happy Valley or Glenburn for tours and tastings.

For trekkers, the Singalila ridge trek to Sandakphu offers a rare five-peak vista: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Kabru. In Darjeeling town, you can visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, which was once home to Tenzing Norgay.

Logistics

Getting there.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), about 90km from Darjeeling. The drive up to the hills takes around three hours, via the scenic roads through Mirik or Kurseong.

The main railway station for the region is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), located 88km from Darjeeling. It's the gateway to the hills. From NJP, you can hire a private car or take a shared jeep.

For road travel, Siliguri (75km away) is the main transport hub in the plains, with frequent shared jeeps heading to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Kurseong.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best time to visit the Darjeeling and Kalimpong region is from October to mid-June. The skies are generally clear during these months, offering the best mountain views. The monsoon season, from late June to September, brings heavy rain, fog, and an increased risk of landslides on NH10 and the Pankhabari road. Travel during July and August can sometimes be disrupted by road closures.
