“I went to this hotel with a friend and my mother and her mother. It is a great place if you want someplace that is quiet and offbeat. The rooms are medium sized but enough to comfortable accomodate at least 3 people. The washroom is clean and sanitary. The food is absolutely outstanding. We mainly had continental there. The pasta, steak and pizza are mouthwa...”

“I visited The Oak Retreat and had a lovely experience. The food was excellent — their pizza and sandwiches served with French fries were absolutely delicious. What made it even more special was enjoying the meal with a stunning view of Kanchenjunga right from the room.A perfect combination of great food and breathtaking scenery!”
“Simple room with most amenities you'll need for a short stay. Excellent food at Lamahatta Cafe downstairs - easily the best you'll have in Lamahatta and even better than most places we tried in Darj. Great staff, awesome food and a nice, clean room - what's not to like?”
The home is a good starting point for exploring the Darjeeling-Kalimpong hills. Tiger Hill is an 11km drive away, famous for the sunrise view that lights up the peak of Kanchenjunga. For a taste of the region's main industry, visit the Happy Valley or Glenburn tea estates to see a working tea garden and join a tasting session. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a slow, scenic two-hour joyride on the Ghum loop. For serious trekkers, the Singalila ridge trek to Sandakphu offers a rare five-mountain view of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Kabru. In Darjeeling town, you can visit the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tenzing Norgay's former home.
The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), about 90km away from Darjeeling, which is a three-hour drive via the scenic routes of Mirik or Kurseong. The main railhead for the region is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), 88km from Darjeeling. From NJP or the plains hub of Siliguri (75km), you can find shared jeeps or hire a private car for the journey up to the hills. The historic Darjeeling toy train also connects to Darjeeling town, offering a much slower but very scenic journey.
The best time to visit is from October to mid-June, when the skies are generally clear and the weather is pleasant. The monsoon season, from late June to September, brings heavy rains that can cause landslides on the main highways like NH10 and the Pankhabari road, often disrupting travel plans.
