Things to do nearby.
The home is a short distance from two of Meghalaya’s most well-known natural sites. The Mawphlang Sacred Forest is a dense, protected grove held sacred by the Khasi people for centuries. You’ll need a local guide to walk you through its quiet paths.
The David Scott Trail, a famous 16-km trek, also starts nearby. The trail follows an old mule track from the 1800s, crossing rivers and passing through Khasi villages. It’s a full day’s walk, so it’s best to start early.
The state capital, Shillong, is about an hour’s drive away. You can use Mawphlang as a quieter base to explore the city’s markets, cafes, and sights like the Don Bosco Museum or Ward's Lake.

Best time to visit.
The best months to visit are from October to April, after the monsoon has passed. The skies are clearer, and the weather is pleasant for trekking and sightseeing. The landscape is still green from the rains.
The monsoon season, from June to September, sees some of the heaviest rainfall in the world. While the waterfalls are at their most powerful and the hills are a deep, lush green, travel can be difficult. Some trails and caves may be closed, and landslides are a possibility.
