The house is easy to find, set on a green slope right by the Manali-Leh highway. From the balcony, you look out over the valley and the mountains beyond. The sun casts long shadows in the afternoon. Inside, the home has four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, for up to eight guests. The rooms are simple and clean and ceilings that feel warm. There’s an indoor seating area for the evenings. Manali is a base for exploring the Kullu valley. A short drive takes you to the Solang Valley for its open meadows and adventure sports. From there, the Atal Tunnel, an engineering feat at over 10,000 feet, provides year-round access to the Lahaul valley, which was previously cut off by snow for six months of the year.

Closer to town, you can visit the Hadimba Devi temple, built around a cave and set in a cedar forest. A walk through Old Manali offers a slower pace, with small cafes and shops along the river. For a warm soak, the Vashisht temple has natural hot springs. The house is also on the road that begins the famous Spiti loop, a route for travelers heading into the high-altitude desert between June and October.

By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (KUU) in Kullu, about a 2-hour drive from Manali. Flights here are limited and weather-dependent. The more reliable option is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), which is about an 8-10 hour drive away but has better connectivity.

By Rail: The nearest major railway station is in Chandigarh. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Manali. The other option is Pathankot, which serves as a railhead for the Kangra side of Himachal.

By Road: Manali is well-connected by road from Delhi and Chandigarh. The town serves as a major road hub for the region, acting as the gateway to Lahaul, Spiti, and Leh.

Best time to visit.

The best months to visit Manali are from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the snow from winter has melted. Another good window is from September to November, after the monsoon, when the skies are clear and the air is crisp.

The monsoon season, in July and August, sees heavy rainfall and can cause landslides on the highways. Winter, from December to February, brings heavy snow, turning Manali into a white landscape, though some higher roads may be closed.
