The home is a good point from which to explore the Kullu valley and beyond.
Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel are a short drive away. The 9km-long tunnel provides year-round access to the Lahaul valley, transforming a summer-only route into an all-weather connection.
In Manali town, you can visit the ancient Hadimba Devi temple, built around a cave and surrounded by a cedar forest. Explore the cafes and small shops of Old Manali, or visit the Vashisht temple and its public hot springs.
For the more adventurous, this is the gateway to the Spiti valley loop. The road via Manali is typically open from June to October and offers a dramatic high-altitude desert landscape, with ancient monasteries like Ki and Kibber. Note that a permit is required for the full loop into Kinnaur.
By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar (KUU) in Kullu, about a 2-hour drive from Manali. Chandigarh (IXC) is the more reliable, larger airport, about 8-9 hours away by road.
By Rail: The nearest major railhead is in Chandigarh. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Manali. The scenic toy train (a UNESCO World Heritage line) runs from Kalka to Shimla, but Shimla is a different region of Himachal.
By Road: Manali is the main road hub for the region, well-connected to Delhi and Chandigarh by overnight buses and taxis. From Manali town, it's an uphill drive to the home.
The best seasons are from March to June, when the snow melts and summer arrives, and again from September to November, for crisp air and clear mountain views.
The monsoon months of July and August can bring heavy rain and increase the risk of landslides on the national highways. Winter, from December to February, sees heavy snowfall. While the landscape is beautiful, road access can be challenging and sometimes blocked.
