The home is a good point from which to explore the Kumaon region.
Mukteshwar Temple & Chauli Ki Jali are a short drive away. The 350-year-old Shiva temple is a place of quiet devotion, but Chauli Ki Jali, a cliff edge nearby, offers wide-open views of the Himalayan range and is popular for rock climbing and rappelling.
Jim Corbett National Park is a longer drive, but essential for wildlife enthusiasts. The park, open from October to June, is one of India's best-known tiger reserves. Safaris can be booked at the Ramnagar gate.
The home is in the Kumaon region of the Western Himalaya.
By air: The nearest airport is Pantnagar Airport (PGH), which serves the Kumaon region. From there, it's a taxi ride of about 3-4 hours to Mukteshwar.
By rail: The closest major railhead is Kathgodam (KGM). It has good connectivity to Delhi and other major cities. Taxis are available at the station for the onward journey to Mukteshwar.
By road: Mukteshwar is well-connected by road. It is about 50 km from Nainital, the main road hub of the region. Rishikesh, the Garhwal hub, is on the other side of the state.
The skies are clearest and the views are best from March to June and again from September to November. This is the ideal time for trekking and sightseeing. The monsoon season, July and August, brings lush greenery but also the risk of landslides on mountain roads. The high-altitude passes and meadows like Auli and Chopta, which are further afield in Garhwal, are typically closed by heavy snow from December to February.
