Solang valley and Atal Tunnel keep the connection between Manali and the Lahaul valley open throughout the year. Driving through the nine-kilometer tunnel brings you straight into the high-altitude landscape of Lahaul near Jispa. Keep warm layers accessible inside your vehicle, as temperatures drop noticeably when emerging from the north portal into the open valley.

The Spiti loop route connects Jispa to high mountain villages including Kaza, Ki monastery, and Kibber. Open primarily from June through October, this high-mountain road circuit requires slow driving over unpaved passes and rocky river crossings. Bhuntar Airport in Kullu-Manali is the closest regional air gateway to the region. Chandigarh International Airport serves as the main all-weather plains backup with frequent flight connections from major Indian cities.

Chandigarh railway station is the primary railhead connecting the northern plains to road routes heading up into Himachal Pradesh.

Manali acts as the primary highway hub before entering Lahaul. From Manali, the drive to Jispa takes around two to three hours via the Atal Tunnel, passing through steep valley walls and open mountain terrain.

March through June brings snow-melt along the river, clear morning skies, and manageable daytime temperatures for outdoor sitting and valley drives. September through November brings cold, dry weather with clear sky views of the high mountain walls before early winter snow begins.

July and August mark the monsoon season across Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rains during these months frequently cause landslides, mud slips, and traffic halts along National Highway 3 and National Highway 21. December through February brings heavy winter snowfall to Jispa, freezing local water sources and closing higher mountain passes to standard traffic.
