The home is a good point from which to explore the southern Khasi Hills. Mawlynnong, famed as Asia's cleanest village, is just a kilometre away. From there, you can also access the Riwai sky walk for views over the canopy. The famous living root bridges are a key sight. While the Nongriat double-decker bridge requires a 3,500-step descent, the single-decker Riwai bridge is a much shorter walk from the property.
Further afield, you can drive towards Cherrapunji (Sohra) to explore the Mawsmai and Krem Phyllut caves, or to see Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge waterfall at 340 metres. A day trip to Dawki takes you to the Umngot river, whose water runs famously clear from January to March, right on the border with Bangladesh.
By air: The nearest major airport is in Guwahati (GAU), about 100km from Shillong. It’s a 3-hour drive from Guwahati to Shillong, which is the main hub for the region. A smaller airport at Umroi near Shillong (SHL) has limited flights, mostly connecting through Kolkata.
By rail: The nearest major railway station is in Guwahati. There is no rail connectivity in Meghalaya itself.
By road: Shillong is the state capital and the central hub for reaching Mawlynnong, Cherrapunji, and Dawki. The property is located on the main road to Mawlynnong.
The best season to visit is from October to April, when the skies are clearer and the weather is dry. The monsoon, from June to September, brings over 10,000mm of rain. During this time, some waterfalls and caves may be inaccessible, but the landscape is a deep, unmatched green.
