What about count your calendars first?

Write one line per listing and per site: Property A on Airbnb, Property A on Booking.com, Property A on Agoda, and so on. Each line is a calendar that must match the others. If rooms are sold separately, each room is its own line.

What about set up a structure that does not fall apart?

1. Name every listing and every iCal link the same way on every site, for example "Hillview Room 2". Mismatched names are how the wrong calendar gets connected. 2. One master calendar per property. It can be a shared calendar you control. Make changes there first. 3. Connect each site to the others using the export and import links, as in our iCal sync guide. 4. Keep a link register. A simple sheet listing property, site, export link, import link and date last tested saves hours when something b

What about whole property or room by room?

If guests can book the whole house or any single room, the calendars interact: a whole-house booking must block every room, and a room booking must block the whole house. iCal cannot express that rule, so you have to model it by hand with separate listings and blocks. This is the single biggest source of clashes for multi-room homestays, and the point where hosts usually outgrow iCal.

What about mistakes that cause double bookings?

- Connecting only one direction, so Site A reads Site B but not the reverse. - Blocking dates for personal use on one site only. - Copying a listing and forgetting to change the calendar link on the copy. - Not noticing that a regenerated link has stopped updating.

What about when to automate?

Move to a channel manager when you manage more than two or three calendars, take frequent bookings, or sell rooms separately and as a whole house. A channel manager holds availability in one place and pushes it out, so you stop maintaining a web of links.

How do I sync several properties on Airbnb and Booking.com?

Create an export and import link pair for every property and every site, keep them named consistently, and test each pair. At more than two or three calendars, a channel manager is less work than links.

Can I sync rooms and the whole house together?

Not reliably with iCal alone, because it cannot make a whole-house booking block each room automatically. Use separate blocks by hand or a channel manager that models rooms.

How many properties can I manage with iCal?

There is no hard limit, but the number of calendars grows quickly and mistakes become likely beyond two or three properties.

Does syncing calendars cost anything?

iCal export and import are free on the major booking sites. A channel manager is a separate tool with its own pricing.
