Things to do nearby.
Dharamshala is the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile, and its heart is in McLeodganj, a short drive away. You can visit the Tsuglagkhang complex, which houses the Dalai Lama's monastery and the Tibet Museum. It's a center of calm and spiritual learning.
For those who want to walk in the mountains, the Triund trek is a popular day hike. It’s a steady four-hour walk up from McLeodganj, opening up to a wide meadow with a direct, wall-like view of the Dhauladhar mountain range. It's best to start early in the morning to avoid the afternoon sun.

Best time to visit.
The best months to visit Dharamshala are from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the snow from winter has melted. A second window opens from September to November, with clear skies after the monsoon and sharp views of the Dhauladhar range.
July and August see heavy monsoon rains, which can cause landslides on the highways. December through February is cold, with a chance of snow in the upper reaches of Dharamshala and McLeodganj.
