The home is a good starting point for exploring the Kullu Valley and beyond.
Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel are a short drive away. Solang is the hub for summer and winter adventure sports, while the 9km-long Atal Tunnel provides year-round access to Lahaul, cutting out the treacherous Rohtang Pass.
In Manali itself, you can visit the ancient Hadimba Devi temple, built around a cave and surrounded by a cedar forest. Afterwards, explore the cafes and small shops of Old Manali, or visit the Vashisht temple for its natural hot springs.
For a day hike, the Triund trek near McLeodganj is a popular option. It's a four-hour walk up to a ridge with a direct, wall-like view of the Dhauladhar mountain range.
If you're visiting in the autumn, Bir-Billing is the place for paragliding. The takeoff point at Bir is the world's second-highest, and the flying season peaks in October and November.
By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar (KUU) in Kullu, serving the Manali region. Chandigarh (IXC) is the most reliable major airport in the plains, with better connectivity.
By Rail: The nearest major railhead is in Chandigarh. From there, it's a taxi or bus ride into the mountains. Pathankot is the railhead for accessing the Dharamshala side of the state.
By Road: Manali is the main road hub for the Kullu Valley and the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti. The drive from Chandigarh or Delhi is long but scenic.
The best seasons are from March to June, when the snow melts and summer arrives, and again from September to November, for clear post-monsoon skies. The monsoon months of July and August often bring heavy rain and landslides on National Highways 3 and 21, making travel difficult. Winter, from December to February, sees heavy snowfall in the upper reaches around Manali.
