A look around
What's here
The first thing you notice is the view. From the long shared balcony, the whole valley opens up, with the town spilling down the green hills opposite. The home is run by Gourav and his family, and guests often mention the warm, personal atmosphere. As one guest, Piyush, put it, "the behaviour of owners, that holds a beautiful mark on our hearts." The space has two simple, clean bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The rooms are furnished with king-sized beds and have what you need for a straightforward stay in the hills. This isn't a hotel, it's a home, and the experience is about the people and the place. A basic kitchen is available for guests who wish to cook their own meals. A review notes that a gas stove, geyser, oven, and utensils are all provided. Or you can have home-cooked meals prepared by the hosts, which guests describe as delicious. In the evenings, you might find yourself by a bonfire. Another guest, Arpit, remembers a "bonfire at night under open sky in moonlight, with sip of tea."

Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

The main draw for many guests is the Karol ka Tibba trek. The starting point for this popular day hike is close to the home, making it an ideal base. The trek takes you to the Karol Temple and offers wide views of Solan and, on a clear day, the Churdhar Peak.

Solan itself is a busy town with markets and a few points of interest, but it's mostly a hub for the surrounding region. Shimla, the state capital, is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive away, making for a good day trip to see the Ridge, Mall Road, and the colonial-era architecture.

Logistics

Getting there.

By Air: The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), which is well-connected to all major Indian cities. From Chandigarh, it's a 2 to 3-hour drive to Solan. Shimla's Jubbarhatti Airport (SLV) is closer but has very limited and weather-dependent flights.

By Rail: The nearest major railway station is in Kalka, about 40 km away. From Kalka, you can either take a taxi or the famous UNESCO-listed Kalka-Shimla toy train, alighting at Solan. Chandigarh also has a major railway station.

By Road: Solan is located directly on the main highway connecting Chandigarh and Shimla. The town is easily accessible by car, taxi, or public and private buses that run frequently along this route.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best months to visit are from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the snow from winter has melted. A second window of clear skies opens up from September to November, after the monsoon.

The monsoon season, from July to August, brings heavy rain and the risk of landslides on the mountain roads. Winters, from December to February, are cold, and while Solan itself sees infrequent snow, the higher reaches around Shimla are often covered.
