By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), about 90km from Darjeeling. The drive takes around 3 hours via the roads through Mirik or Kurseong.
By Rail: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the main railhead for the entire region, located 88km away. From NJP, you can hire a private taxi or take a shared jeep up to Darjeeling. The historic Darjeeling toy train also connects NJP to Darjeeling, but it's a very slow, scenic journey.
By Road: Siliguri, 75km away, is the main transport hub in the plains. Shared jeeps and buses run frequently from Siliguri to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Mirik. Darjeeling town itself is a major hub for exploring the surrounding hills.
The best season to visit is from October to mid-June, when the skies are generally clear and the weather is pleasant. This is the ideal time for trekking and for clear views of the Himalayas. The monsoon season, from late June to September, brings heavy rain. This can cause landslides on the main highways like NH10 and the Pankhabari road, sometimes leading to road closures and travel delays.
