Step through the doorway into living spaces with smooth wooden floors, green indoor plants, and floor-to-ceiling windows framed by light curtains that open out to the mountain air. The house holds four private bedrooms, each fitted with a double bed, generous natural light, and its own adjoining bathroom. In the main living and sleeping areas, low seating and small round tables sit directly beside the glass panes, giving you a front-row seat to watch clouds drift across the tea slopes. A separate indoor seating corner provides space to read, while the open terrace invites you to linger over a hot morning cup. Meals are cooked fresh for every sitting by the hosts. Breakfasts and dinners include local preparations, seasonal mountain salads, fresh chutneys, and hot evening barbecue options served straight from the hearth. Tiger Hill sits 11km up the mountain road. Leave the house before 5am to catch the first sun strike the snow peaks of Kanchenjunga from the observation deck. Bring a thick jacket, as early morning temperatures dip sharply even in spring.

Happy Valley Tea Estate and Glenburn Tea Estate sit along the surrounding ridges. You can walk through working tea bushes, watch leaf plucking during harvesting months, and sample fresh first-flush teas directly at the processing sheds.

The historic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway runs right through the town center, just a 2-minute walk down from the front door. Take the two-hour toy train joyride up to Ghum, looping through the famous Batasia Loop with clear views of the valley.

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute house snow leopards, red pandas, and historic expedition gear from Tenzing Norgay's climbs. Plan to spend two to three hours exploring the wooded paths inside the park grounds.

For high-altitude trekkers, the Singalila ridge trail begins further west towards Sandakphu, offering views across four of the world's five highest mountains, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.

Getting there.

Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is the primary air hub, sitting 90km away in the plains. The drive takes around 3 hours via Mirik or Kurseong along winding hill routes. Taxis and private cars run daily between Bagdogra and Darjeeling town.

New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the main railway hub in the plains, sitting 88km from the house. Shared jeeps and private vehicles depart regularly from NJP station forecourt directly to Darjeeling.

Siliguri acts as the regional road hub 75km down the mountain. Shared jeeps run continuously between Siliguri's hill cart road stand and Darjeeling town center.

The local Darjeeling toy train station sits just a 2-minute walk from the property entrance, making arrivals on foot simple if coming from the central market area.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

October through mid-June brings clear skies, crisp mountain air, and unobstructed views of Mt Kanchenjunga. October and November offer cool daytime temperatures and sharp blue skies ideal for walking and sight-seeing.

Winter from December through February brings freezing night temperatures and frost on the balcony railing, though daytime sun remains bright. Pack woolens, thermal layers, and thick socks for indoor evenings.

Monsoon runs from late June through September. Dense fog envelops the ridges, bringing heavy rainfall, occasional landslides along National Highway 10, and slippery walking trails. Travel during these months requires flexible schedules and padded travel days.
