The home is a good point from which to explore the Kumaon region. Nainital, with its lake and markets, is about 17km away. For day trips, you can drive to the Jim Corbett National Park, entering from the Ramnagar gate. The park is open from October to June and is one of India's foremost tiger reserves. Further afield is Mukteshwar, home to a 350-year-old Shiva temple and Chauli Ki Jali, a cliff edge with sweeping views of the Himalayan range.
The home is located in the Kumaon region of the Western Himalaya.
By Air: The nearest airport is Pantnagar (PGH), which serves the Kumaon region. From the airport, you can hire a taxi for the drive towards Pangot.
By Rail: The closest major railhead is in Kathgodam. Taxis are available at the station for the journey uphill to the Nainital area.
By Road: The property is a 45-minute drive (about 17km) from the main hub of Nainital. The final 800 meters to the home are not motorable and must be covered on foot via a steep forest trail.
The Kumaon hills are accessible year-round, but different seasons offer different experiences. The clearest skies and most pleasant weather are from March to June and again after the monsoon, from September to November. The monsoon months of July and August see heavy rain, which can cause landslides and make the walking trail to the home slippery and prone to leeches. The high-altitude winter months, from December to February, can bring snow.
