The nearest airport is Srinagar (SXR), about 95km from Pahalgam, a roughly 3-hour drive via Anantnag. The closest railhead is Banihal (110km), accessible via tunnel; alternatively, hire a taxi from Srinagar. Srinagar, the summer capital, is 95km away and the primary departure point for most travellers. Anantnag, the district headquarters and the last large town before Pahalgam, is 45km away.

Best time to visit.
The Kashmir Valley, including Pahalgam, is best visited between April and October. The Amarnath Yatra takes place in July and August. Higher trails can be blocked by snow from November to March.
