Getting there.

The home is in Kasauli, in the Western Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh.

By air: The nearest major airport is in Chandigarh (IXC), which has good connectivity with major Indian cities. From Chandigarh, it is a drive of a few hours into the hills. The airport in Shimla (SLV) is closer but has very limited, weather-dependent flights.

By rail: The nearest major railway station is Kalka, at the foothills. Kalka is the starting point for the UNESCO World Heritage toy train that runs up to Shimla. The main plains railhead with the best connections is Chandigarh (CDG).

By road: Kasauli is well-connected by road from Chandigarh and Delhi. The drive up into the mountains is scenic, with hairpin bends and pine-forested slopes.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best months to visit Kasauli are from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the snow has melted. A second window of clear skies and mild weather opens up from September to November, after the monsoon.

The monsoon season, from July to August, can bring heavy rain and the risk of landslides on the national highways leading into the hills. Winters, from December to February, are cold, and there can be snowfall in the upper reaches of the region.
