The home is a starting point for exploring the Kullu Valley and beyond. Manali is the main hub nearby. From there, you can drive to Solang Valley for its mountain views and adventure sports. The Atal Tunnel, a 9km-long engineering feat, is also accessible from Manali and keeps the route to Lahaul open for most of the year.
In and around Manali itself, you can visit the ancient Hadimba Devi temple, built around a cave and surrounded by a cedar forest. Explore the cafes and small shops of Old Manali, or take a short walk up to the Vashisht hot springs for a dip.
For those on a longer expedition, this is a common halt before starting the Spiti loop. The road from Manali to Kaza is typically open from June to October and takes you through some of the highest motorable passes in the world, past remote villages like Kibber and the iconic Ki Monastery.
By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (KUU) in Kullu-Manali, which is very close to the property. Flights can be limited and weather-dependent. The most reliable major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), a plains backup for all of Himachal.
By Rail: The nearest major railhead is Chandigarh (CDG). From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus into the Kullu valley. The heritage Kalka-Shimla toy train (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a scenic option if your journey is towards Shimla.
By Road: The home is located on the main highway (NH-3) that connects the plains to Manali. It's a common stop for people driving up from Chandigarh or Delhi. Manali serves as the main road hub for the region, providing access to Lahaul, Spiti, and the surrounding valleys.
The best seasons to visit the Kullu region are from March to June, when the snow melts and the valleys turn green, and again from September to November, for clear skies and crisp mountain air after the monsoon. The monsoon months of July and August can bring heavy rain and increase the risk of landslides on the national highways. Winter, from December to February, sees heavy snowfall in the upper reaches around Manali, which can be beautiful but may also lead to road closures.
