A look around
What's here
The first thing you notice is the quiet. Just the sound of birds, and maybe the wind. The home is a simple, modern building with three levels of balconies looking out at the mountains. There is space to park your car right out front. Inside, the home has six bedrooms, each with its own bed, accommodating up to twelve guests in total. The rooms are kept very clean and simple, with attached bathrooms. The real living space is outdoors - on the balconies with your morning tea, or in the yard in the evening. There's a fire pit in the garden, a good place to sit after dinner as the temperature drops. The hosts, Mohini and Mahadev, live here and run the kitchen. Guests often mention the food. As one wrote, "Each meal is a culinary delight, prepared with fresh, local ingredients and bursting with flavor." Another guest put it more simply: "All we needed was a bed and a roof, but you provided so much more warmth, good company, Best food and plenty of Aloha."

Around the stay

Things to do nearby.

The home is a starting point for exploring the Western Himalayas. Depending on which valley you are heading towards, you can plan day trips or longer excursions.

Near Manali, you can visit the Hadimba Devi temple, explore the cafes of Old Manali, or take a dip in the Vashisht hot springs. The drive to Solang Valley is popular, and the Atal Tunnel now provides year-round access to Lahaul.

If you're closer to the Dharamshala region, you can visit McLeodganj, the home of the Dalai Lama and the Tsuglagkhang complex. The four-hour walk up to Triund offers a direct view of the Dhauladhar mountain range.

For adventure seekers, Bir-Billing is Asia's paragliding capital. The peak season is October and November, when the sky is full of gliders landing at Billing.

Logistics

Getting there.

The best way to reach the home depends on which part of Himachal you are coming from. The state is served by a few key transport hubs.

By Air: The three main airports are Bhuntar (KUU) for the Kullu-Manali valley, Gaggal (DHM) for Dharamshala and McLeodganj, and Shimla (SLV), which has limited connectivity. Chandigarh (IXC) is the largest and most reliable airport in the plains, with good road connections to all major Himachali towns.

By Rail: The nearest broad-gauge railhead for the Dharamshala side is Pathankot. For Shimla, the Kalka station connects to the UNESCO-listed toy train. For most other destinations, Chandigarh is the most convenient major railway station.

By Road: The home is accessible by road. You can hire a taxi from the nearest major town or self-drive if you are experienced with mountain roads.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The clearest weather is from March to June, as the snow melts and summer arrives, and again from September to November, for sharp, post-monsoon views.

July and August are the monsoon months. The hills are green and washed clean, but landslides can cause delays on National Highways 3 and 21. From December to February, the higher reaches around Manali and Shimla receive snowfall, and roads can be temporarily closed.
