“A Meghalaya home among the trees in the Khasi Hills, sleeping up to 2 guests. Brick cottages sit near stone pathways, surrounded by forest, a swimming pool, and an open lawn. Guests come for bird watching, buffet meals, and walks along the grounds. The uphill road is rough, but the morning air is clear and quiet.”

A look around
What's here
Morning opens with birds calling from the high canopy and sunlight filtering through tall timber onto red brick cottages. Stone pathways paved with hand-cut flagstones connect the cottages across open lawns and unmanaged forest patches. Inside, high ceilings meet exposed structural beams, ceiling fans, and wrought-iron bed frames fitted with simple linens. The home offers six beds and six bathrooms, arranged across distinct cottage units designed to keep guests close to the surrounding weather and soil. Outside the rooms, an outdoor swimming pool sits along an elevated tiled terrace, framed by dense trees and outdoor dining tables. Further along the garden trail, hand-carved stone benches and a heavy stone table rest in the shade of broadleaf trees on open red clay ground, offering a quiet place to read or talk in the cool breeze. Nearby, a small strawberry farm protected under white shade netting grows rows of berries along terraced soil. Meals are served in a central open-sided dining hall, where a daily buffet includes local northeastern dishes alongside simple staple meals. Guests spend their time walking the dirt paths, taking photos of local flora, watching forest birds from the lawn, or sitting near the open outdoor grounds in the late afternoon. One guest noted that "surrounded by lush greenery and gentle hills, this place feels like a quiet escape from the noise of life." Another reviewer wrote that "the traditional huts blend beautifully with nature, offering peace, fresh air, and a slow, mindful experience." For dining, a recent visitor remarked that they "loved the Food and the buffet system."

“Loved the Food and the buffet system. Good atmosphere to relax with your homies. But nothing much to do and the uphill road leading to the resort is in pretty bad condition.”

Living root bridges lie cut into the steep river valleys of the Khasi Hills. The famous double-decker living root bridge at Nongriat demands a steep trek down 3,500 concrete and stone steps through moist tropical forest. The return climb is physically demanding, so start before 7am with adequate water and sturdy footwear.

Mawsmai Cave and Krem Phyllut showcase the extensive underground limestone formations of the Sohra region. Mawsmai Cave is well-lit with high ceilings and wide chambers, making it an easy fifteen-minute walk underground. Krem Phyllut provides a wilder cave setting requiring careful footing and flashlights.

The Umngot River at Dawki runs through a narrow gorge near the international border. From January to March, the water turns clear, allowing wooden rowboats to float over visible gravel beds twenty feet below. Drive early in the morning to beat tourist traffic coming from Shillong.

Mawlynnong village offers stone-paved paths, raised bamboo waste bins, and carefully maintained flower gardens in front of traditional Khasi homes. Just two kilometers away in Riwai village, a wide single-tier living root bridge crosses a calm forest stream via an easy flat trail.

Nohkalikai Falls drops 340 meters over a dark rock face into a deep green pool below. Located near Sohra, the main cliffside viewpoint provides clear views across the entire canyon during clear morning hours before valley mist rises in the afternoon.
