Kausani is a good base for exploring the Kumaon region.
Mukteshwar Temple & Chauli Ki Jali. About a two-hour drive from Kausani, this 350-year-old Shiva temple offers its own expansive Himalayan views. Next to it is Chauli Ki Jali, a cliff edge with a lattice-like rock formation, popular for rappelling and sightseeing.
Jim Corbett National Park. India’s oldest national park is a few hours' drive south. The Ramnagar gate is the main entry point for this part of Kumaon. The park is open from October to June and is one of the best places in the country to see tigers in the wild.

By rail: The closest major railhead is Kathgodam (KGM), the gateway to Kumaon. Taxis are readily available at the station for the 4-hour drive.
By road: Kausani is well-connected by road. It is accessible from major hubs like Nainital and Almora. The drive through the Himalayan foothills is scenic, with roads winding through pine forests.
The skies are clearest and the views are sharpest from March to June and again after the monsoon, from September to November. These months offer pleasant weather for sightseeing and walks. The monsoon season (July-August) brings heavy rain and the risk of landslides. Winters (December-February) are cold, and the area can experience snowfall, which offers a different kind of beauty but can sometimes affect road access to higher altitudes.
