The drive from Rohru ends where the paved road does. This home is a collection of tents pitched on a high meadow, looking out at the mountains. The air is thin and clean. The only sounds are the wind and the occasional call of a dog that lives on site. Five large Swiss tents make up the camp, each set on a stone plinth with its own attached bathroom and shower. Each tent has a proper bed and is designed to stay dry and warm, even during the persistent rains of the monsoon. In total, the five tents can sleep up to ten guests. The hosts, Bobby and Jass, and their driver, Ravi, are often mentioned by guests as the best part of the stay. They know the region, the roads, and the viewpoints. As one guest, Jyoti, wrote after her stay, "Jass was there at every moment to guide us during our entire trip to Dodra Kwar. The main draw here is the landscape itself. The hosts can guide you on local trails and drives. The journey to Dodra Kwar is a popular excursion, an adventurous drive on rough roads that opens up to incredible valley views. It is best done in a 4x4 vehicle, which the hosts can help arrange. In September, the apple orchards in the lower valleys are in full bloom. For trekkers, the trails lead up into high-altitude meadows and past small glacial lakes, with the Dhauladhar range often visible in the distance.

The camp is in a remote part of Himachal Pradesh, near Rohru.

By Air - The nearest major airport is Chandigarh (IXC). Shimla's airport (SLV) is closer but has very limited and weather-dependent flights. From either airport, you will need to hire a taxi for the multi-hour drive to Rohru.

By Rail - The nearest major railhead is Chandigarh. For a more scenic approach, the UNESCO-listed Kalka-Shimla toy train runs from Kalka to Shimla. From Shimla, it is a road journey to Rohru.

By Road - Rohru is the nearest town with regular bus and taxi services. The final stretch of road to the camp is unpaved and requires a vehicle with high ground clearance. The hosts can arrange a pickup from Rohru by Gypsy, driven by their trusted driver, Ravi.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best months to visit are from March to June, when the snow has melted and the weather is pleasant, and again from September to November for clear skies and post-monsoon greenery. Guests visiting in September have noted that the apple orchards are in full bloom. The monsoon months of July and August see heavy rain, and landslides can affect road access in the region. Winter, from December to February, brings heavy snow, making the area difficult to access.
