Logistics

Getting there.

The most convenient major airport and railway station is in Chandigarh (IXC), which is well-connected to all major Indian cities. From Chandigarh, Una is about a 3 to 4-hour drive by car. You can hire a pre-paid or app-based taxi from the airport or station.

While driving in Himachal, keep in mind that most hill roads are single-lane with hairpin bends. Traffic can be slow, and it’s wise to budget extra time for your journey. A 100-kilometre drive can often take four hours or more.

Seasons

Best time to visit.

The best time to visit the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh is from March to June, when the weather is pleasant, and from September to November, for clear skies after the monsoon.

The monsoon season, from July to August, brings heavy rain, and landslides can sometimes affect road travel in the wider region. Winters, from December to February, are cold, but the home is centrally heated. Unlike the upper reaches of the Himalayas, snowfall in Una itself is rare.
