The home is a good starting point for exploring the wider Kullu region.
Manali is a few hours' drive away. From there, you can visit the Solang valley for its adventure sports or drive through the Atal Tunnel, the 9km pass that now connects Manali to Lahaul year-round. The town of Manali itself has the ancient Hadimba Devi temple, the markets of Old Manali, and the hot springs at Vashisht.
For those with more time and a sense of adventure, the road from Manali leads to the Spiti valley loop. This high-altitude desert circuit includes Kaza, the iconic Ki monastery, and the village of Kibber. This route is only open from June to October and requires careful planning.
By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar (KUU) in Kullu, which serves the Manali, Kasol, and Tirthan areas. Flights can be limited and weather-dependent. The most reliable major airport is in Chandigarh (IXC), a 7-8 hour drive away.
By Rail: The nearest major railhead is Chandigarh (IXC). From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus into the valley. For a scenic, slower journey into the hills towards Shimla, the Kalka-Shimla toy train (a UNESCO World Heritage line) is an option, though Shimla is a different region of Himachal.
By Road: The home is located on the road into Tirthan Valley. The main road hub for the region is Manali, which is well-connected by overnight buses from Delhi and Chandigarh.
The best seasons are from March to June, when the snow melts and summer arrives, and again from September to November for clear skies after the monsoon. The monsoon months of July and August often bring heavy rain and landslides on the main highways (NH-3 and NH-21), making travel difficult. From December to February, the upper reaches of the Kullu valley see heavy snowfall.
