The home is a good base for exploring the Garhwal region. You can visit Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world. It’s a 4-hour climb from the village of Chopta. The Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is open from July to September; the trek begins from Govindghat. Every evening in Rishikesh, you can witness the Ganga Aarti ceremony at Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan. In winter, from December to March, Auli offers skiing. The rest of the year, its oak and rhododendron meadows are open for trekking.
The nearest airport for the Garhwal region is Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun. The closest major railhead is in Haridwar. From either Dehradun or Haridwar, you can hire a taxi for the onward journey. Rishikesh serves as the main road hub for the region, with bus and taxi services connecting to the upper Himalayas.
The clearest skies are from March to June and again from September to November, making these the best months to visit. The monsoon season, from July to August, brings heavy rain and the risk of landslides on mountain roads. High-altitude destinations like Auli and Chopta are often closed from December to February due to heavy snowfall.
