Ganga Aarti in Rishikesh. Every evening, the ghats of Rishikesh come alive with the Ganga Aarti ceremony. The most well-known are held at Triveni Ghat and Parmarth Niketan, where lamps are set afloat on the river amidst chants and bells. Rishikesh is the gateway town for the region.
Auli. Known for its winter skiing from December to March, Auli is a vast meadow of oak and rhododendron for the rest of the year. It offers some of the most direct and views of Nanda Devi, India’s second-highest peak.

The mountains are accessible year-round, but each season offers a different experience. The clearest skies and most pleasant weather are from March to June and again from September to November. The monsoon months of July and August bring lush greenery but also the risk of landslides. High-altitude destinations like Auli and Chopta are often closed by heavy snow from December to February, which is the season for skiing in Auli.
